Mobile is the seat of Mobile County. It is the third most populous city in Alabama with its population of 192,904. The city’s senior demographic only comprise 13.7 percent of the population but it is estimated that the state’s senior population would increase by 83 percent in 2040.
Mobile has several community colleges and vocational schools but institutions offering CNA classes are hard to find. This does not affect the demand for CNAs in the city. As of May 2016, there are about 2,060 CNAs employed in Mobile alone. Mobile is the medical center of central Gulf Coast. Aside from its major hospitals, there are many home health care, assisted-living, and skilled nursing facilities in the area. Majority of the city’s top employers are actually medical facilities.
Saad Healthcare was founded in 1967 by John and Dorothy Saad. Today, it is still run by the Saad family and holds the distinction as the only remaining locally-owned healthcare company in the area. It is one of the biggest healthcare service provider and employer in the Gulf Coast. Saad’s core services include home health, hospice care, rehabilitation, and private duty assistance.
Saad Education has three education programs, including the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. The CNA course is taught by Saad’s in-house nursing professionals. The course will be divided into theory, skills lab, and clinical. The syllabus includes duties and skills necessary for NAs in the healthcare sector, basic emergency and medical knowledge, fundamental nursing knowledge and skills, restorative care and rehabilitation, and specialized nursing care and skills.
The course duration is two weeks for a total of 80 hours. The class size is limited to 24 students. The course is available every two weeks. There will be seven full days’ worth of classroom instruction with two days of hands-on clinical training. On the last day of the training, students can take the State Certification Exam that is also facilitated by Saad.
The tuition fee is $375. Additional fees include a textbook that is worth $45 if bought brand new and $30 if bought secondhand. There is also a $100 State Certification Exam fee
Saad also offers staffing services for health facilities. They only refer graduates of their CNA course.
