 HTEP has a license to provide a full Nursing Assistant Training Program from the State of Rhode Island Department of Health. The program is a combination of theory, hands-on training, and internship at a local nursing home. Students are trained by expert instructors and introduced to the latest technologies used in the field. Graduates will receive a CNA certification and a CPR/BLS certificate. They will also receive a temporary license so that they can pursue employment opportunities as they wait for the State Certification Exam.

Topics covered in the course include daily living activities, basic nursing skills, restorative skills, emotional and mental health needs, spiritual and cultural needs, communication, resident rights, legal and ethical behavior and the basics of being a member of a healthcare team.

The CNA course has a total of 140 clock hours. Theory and hands-on training take up 120 hours while the internship is for 20 hours. There is a morning class option and two evening class options. Morning classes are Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The length of classes is six weeks. One evening class option is held on Mondays to Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The other options start at 5:00 p.m. instead. The duration of the evening class option is eight weeks.

Crossroads Rhode Island

Crossroads was founded in 1894 to aid and provide services to the homeless and vulnerable residents of Rhode Island. It is now the largest organization for the providing services to the homeless. Aside from providing shelter and basic needs, Crossroads offer services affordable housing units, comprehensive case management, education and employment services, and 24/7 emergency services.

The Certified Nursing Assistant Training is a part of Crossroad’s Education and Employment Services. The services’ main goal is to provide adult education, job training, and support to homeless and disadvantaged individuals so that they can develop skills and resources they can use to secure financial and housing stability.

First Aid and CPR training are included in the training. Aside from nursing assistant certificate of completion, graduates will also receive certificates for First Aid and CPR. The duration of the training is seven weeks. Classes are held on Mondays to Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The schedule may change during the clinical week.

Interested applicants should present a referral from the ORS, DHS, Network RI, or from Crossroads itself. Applicants should also present recent BCI background checks, at least three valid IDs (photocopy only), birth certificate, immunization records, and social security card. Students are also required to take a TABE test. The textbook, uniform, and state certification exam fees are already paid for

Briarcliffe Manor

Briarcliffe Manor is located in Johnston, Providence County. It is a privately-owned nursing and rehabilitation center. Briarcliffe Manor’s facility is five-star rated and award-winning. Its rehabilitation lengths and re-hospitalization rates are lower than the national average. Their integrated therapy and nursing teams provide quality and skilled care.

Briarcliffe is licensed by the State of Rhode Island Department of Health to provide full nursing assistant training. The facility’s Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program is an accelerated program. The program duration is less than 20 days’ worth of classes.

Admission requirements include standard, character, and physical requirements requirement. For the standard requirements, applicants are requested to present a valid ID, medical certificate, immunization records, clean BCI background check, and high school diploma or GED certificate. Applicants are encouraged to have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and desire to work with the elderly as it is required for the job as a CNA. They should also have enough strength and stamina to perform taxing tasks.

Admission is free for qualified candidates. Briarcliffe only accepts applications in-person from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Graduates who pass the state certification exam would have more chances of being hired by Briarcliffe.

Saint Antoine Residence

The Saint Antoine Community is a nursing care and assisted-living community in North Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island. The community caters to the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the elderly with the help of their highly experienced staff. The Saint Antoine Community also offers a Health Care Training Collaborative (HCTC) CNA training program.

This CNA program is offered for free for those qualified. The program is made possible by the grant from Real Jobs RI, an initiative from the RI Department of Labor and Training, and supplemental funding from the Saint Antoine Residence.

The program duration is eight weeks. Six weeks will be spent on the training itself and the remaining two weeks will be spent on clinical rotation. Classes are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All classes will be held at the Saint Antoine Residence unless otherwise announced. There will be make-up classes during Wednesdays for missed classes due to weather or holidays. Classes are mostly offered in January, April, September, and December.

Applicants should be 18 years old and above and already out of high school or not a full-time high school student. They should also be a Rhode Island resident and don’t owe any back taxes to the state. Admission requirements include clean BCI background check, pass a TABE Test at a 6th-grade level, must have the physical capability to push and pull up to 70lbs.

Graduates are required to work as a CNA at Saint Antoine Residence for at least 30 hours a week for a year.

Health Care Connections Nursing Services

Another nursing service facility in Providence County, Health Care Connections (HCC) is located on Willet Avenue, Riverside, Rhode Island. Founded in 2001, the facility’s main mission is to provide home care staff to individuals that are chronically ill, recovering from illness or injury, and are disabled. HCC has state licenses and accreditation from the Department of Human Services.

Aside from nursing services, HCC also offers licensed CNA training. This CNA training program covers topics in healthcare basics, safety, infection prevention, body mechanics, hygiene and grooming, urinary and bowel elimination, nutrition, vital sign measurement, specimen collection, health issues, exercises for restorative rehabilitation, rest and sleeps comfort, mental health issues, CPR, and basic emergency care.

This is a 90-hour program with 80 hours dedicated to classroom lecture and 20 hours of clinical training. The course duration is between 8-10 weeks. There is no fixed schedule but classes often meet for two evenings every week or on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Classes are only available in spring and fall.

Applicants are required to bring valid ID, social security card, proofs of MMR, Tdap, and Varicella vaccination, and 2 step PPD or chest x-ray.

The program costs $650. This amount includes the uniform, equipment, instructional materials, BCI check, graduation certificate, and licensing fees.
