CNA Classes in Tacoma, WA

There are many advantages of becoming a CNA. The training not only opens career opportunities but also develop skills that are useful in everyday life. A CNA can positively impact lives, both that of patients and their families. This is without sacrificing their personal life as CNAs can have flexible working hours and choose from plenty job openings in different care settings. And relocation isn’t a problem for CNAs – there’s no shortage of CNA job openings in the US!

But in order to become a CNA, quality CNA training is a must. There’s no need to travel away from home to enroll in a CNA training program. Almost every city has a facility or two that offers training and in some cases, employment opportunities. These facilities may come in the form of community colleges, training schools, healthcare facilities, even high schools. In Tacoma, there are six facilities that are approved to offer a CNA training program. Read further to learn more about these facilities.

Bates Technical College

Bates Technical College aims to encourage students to pursue greater achievement by preparing them for employment. Established in 1940, Bates now caters to more or less 3,000 career training students and 10,000 community members annually. The college’s graduates are in-demand and well-known for being workplace-ready.

Bates has programs in career education, continuing education, educator training, general education and basic studies, high school study, child studies, international, online learning, and an apprenticeship program. The Health/Sciences courses are under the Continuing Education program. The Nursing Assistant Program (CTNA 101) is just one of these health and science course. This is a standalone certificate course aiming for state Nursing Assistant certification exam.

Class schedules vary depending on the term of enrollment but Nursing Assistant classes are usually held in the college’s downtown campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from either 7:00 a.m. till noon or from noon to 5:00 p.m. Clinicals are Mondays to Fridays from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Admission requirements include up-to-date immunizations, CPR for Healthcare Providers certificate, and health insurance. Registration is done through either mail or phone and completed online after the payment is received through credit card. Low enrollment can cause a class to be canceled.

The tuition fee is calculated per number of credits starting at around $100 per credit hour. CTNA 101 Nursing Assistant Certified is worth five credits. Excel Health Careers Training

Excel Health Careers Training has two locations in Washington, one in Des Moines and another in Tacoma. This training facility had been around since 2003 and had since become a leader in providing excellent Nurse Aide training.

The training facility’s CNA program is approved by the Washington State Department of Health. The program is classified as traditional and similar to programs offered in other Washington cities, Excel Health’s CNA Plus program includes HIV and CPR/First Aid training.

There are two class schedule options in the Tacoma location. AM Classes are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the PM classes are from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. These classes are held during weekdays for four weeks.

The $600 tuition fee is all-inclusive.

ProCare Academy of Washington

ProCare Academy offers CNA training in its Olympia and Tacoma locations. The Academy’s CNA Training program (Nursing Assistant – Certified (NA-C)) prepares individuals to enter the healthcare field especially in rehabilitation, sub-acute, assisted living, home care, home health, and retirement facility settings.

The program is approved by the Washington State Department of Health and meets all OBRA requirements. It is comprehensive and offered through lecture/laboratory (70 hours) and clinical instruction (50 hours). The main focus of the program’s clinical experience is providing basic adult/geriatric care with some practice in pediatric care. A 4-hour CPR for Healthcare Providers course and a 7-hour HIV program is also included in the CNA program.

There are day, evening, and weekend class options. Day classes are Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Clinical hours will be from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Evening classes also have a Monday to Friday schedule but from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Clinicals for the evening class will be from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Weekend classes are on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Clinical hours will be from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The tuition fee is $625. There is also a $50 non-refundable registration fee, $44 for a textbook and workbook, $15 for a scrub top, and another $15 for a gait belt. The textbook, workbook, scrubs, and gait belt can be purchased outside of the school. A down payment of $250 is required before classes begin. There are payment plans that students can discuss with the academy to settle the remaining balance before the last day of classes.
